NEW YORK - Spike Lee's forthcoming "Red Hook Summer" earned a pair of international distributors on Monday - Recreation and Incentive Capital.

The Los Angeles-based sales company and the Salt-Lake City-based media fund jointly acquired the rights to the latest offering from Lee, which debuted at
Sundance.

The New York-based director reprises his role as "Mookie" from "Do the Right Thing," co-starring with Jules Brown, Tony Lysaith,
Clarke Peters and Nate Parker.

"This is a powerful and relevant film from one of the most influential filmmakers of our time and reminds us of some of Spike's iconic movies we all know and love," Ariel Veneziano, president of Recreation, and Joe Pia of Incentive said in a statement. "We are proud to be looking after this great movie which fits right into our joint acquisitions strategy."

Boutique distributor Variance Films is handling the domestic rights to "Red Hook Summer," which had one of the more eventful screenings at Sundance. Lee told the audience that the studios "know nothing about black people."

The film will open August 10 in New York and expand throughout the month
